I was swimming along merrily through the moorings at St Mawes when I came across a boat on the bottom. It was a small 2 berth cabin cruiser. It had been there for a while as it had a foot of silt inside it. There was no outboard but the cables were there, I couldn't tell if they were cut as the ends were buried in silt. There was an engine cover close by, upside down and half full of silt. There was no wheel at the helm and there wasn't much inside either. I couldn't see a name on the stern as it was covered in growth.

There was no bell :(

The moderators are continually working to improve the website. Mostly these changes have been brought about by requests from the users. We saw the ex names feature added a while back and divers will find engine builders and yard numbers of use in identifying wrecks. This all makes more work for the uploaders and some of the current changes reflect this. The foreign letters have been a problem for me and also affects the searches. Norwegian O's etc. As I have said the work continues and in effect will never be complete as the parameters expand. I will continue to add builders 1912 yard numbers and there will have to be an adjustment there to incorporate more varied uploads. Eg documents. There is a wealth of information in that sector now newspaper searches are available. Its great to see forum members are participating. ( Charles W. and Kevin H.et al ). All valuable information even if its just a wreck status report.

The following new features have been added:
- new fields 'engine builder', 'IMO number' and 'yard number' to the wreck details
- the weather forecast station selected is being kept in memory for your next visit
- a virtual keyboard allows updaters to enter scandinavian, french, spanish and german characters
- quick links to enter long phrases such as "triple expansion engine" in the engine's field.

NETHERLAND CHARTS
All charts in the Netherlands have been upgraded to the latest 2010 edition and most charts are now 100 megapixels big
We have added the large (medium scale) charts 'Approaches to Europort & Hoek van Holland' and 'Westkappelle to Stellendam'
and the small (large scale) chart 'Europoort'

OUTER GABBARD - SCHEVENINGEN
This huge chart has always been a bit controversial as it belongs to variuos hydrographic offices (UK/NL/BE).
A Dutch/Belgian subscriber had to subscribe to the UK hydrographic service in full and vice versa,
a UK hydrographic subscriber had to subscribe to the BE/NL services in order to see it.
That was a bit too much, so we have put that chart as a separate (cheaper) service and one can subscribe additional to that chart only.
See this link: http://www.wrecksite.eu/chartInfo.aspx?24
Note that this does not include the UK hydrographic reports we have on that chart, unless you are UK hydrographic service subscribed.

MEDITERRANEAN
The same applies to the Mediterranean.
One had to subscribe to the UK hydrographic service in full to have access to some charts we have there.
This has now been put in a separate (cheaper) service
See this link: http://www.wrecksite.eu/chartInfo.aspx?23
Note that this does not include Croatia. Croatia is a separate service.

SPAIN
Great News! Spain will be covered with new charts in October.

FRANCE
The French hydrographic office SHOM has been working on our project and it will be submitted at
the director's meeting in October. It is expected to be approved.
The wrecksite may then be able to show French charts from December 2010/January2011 onwards.

BUGS
the AIS link on the wreck's page has been reworked.
The link did not work because marinetraffic.com had changed their client side software.

Best Regards,

1912 Yard Numbers for Builders Plates

I am gradually adding lists of builders ships and yard numbers to Wrecksite.
These appear in the Lloyd's Appendix Volumes which are very rare. The yard number often appears on the builders plate and may identify a WW1 wreck.
PM me if you need details.
One such entry Smith's Dock Co.

at the end of the pier it was misty with a hint of fog, so we decided to ave a look near the site the weather was calm with 3-4 miles viz. so the decision was made for the 5 of us to return back to the shot just in case the weather deterated while we were down. got to 40m black as your hat, hit the bottom at 52m dark with 5m viz the shot landed next to the engine, there is a lot of non ferris odds everywhere ,had a look around and a good trip home .will do this one again!! next month

Jan has added ships post fixed by " Maru " the most confusing of all the catagories. He is now adding all WW1 losses to submarines . I estimate that should number about 7000 for allied vessels. He is currently at the letter C.
After that he will do WW2. Benita came up as a sailing ship sunk 15 miles south of Portland Bill. Jan thought it might be Chesh's Wreck but Benita was carrying stone. In any case I feel Chesh's Wreck is pre WW1. I have added some more photos for the wreck on wrecksite. I have done about 4 years worth of earlier Lloyds losses and am currently working on 1891/92. That for steamships only. I am also adding newspaper reports as documents as they tell the whole story. Just added two for Plymouth, Widgeon and Norbiton which have still to be identified. The site continues to grow but in a sense the work will never be complete. Contributions from divers are always welcome. If in doubt I can make the addition. Photos, videos, dive reports all are catered for.
