Sailing Ship Types
The sailing ship wrecks was getting a bit long so I have started a new thread to show the types of vessels only.
Collier Brig  5 masted barque.  2 masted schooner.  ketch.  3 masted ship rig.  3 masted steel barque.

Unfortunately you can't see the mast tops of the ketch to see why it is different to the 2 masted schooner. The ketch has the shorter mast of two to aft, the schooner has the taller mast to aft.

Quite right you two. All my fault.Cropped the picture too much. Tis me poor old eyes you see.Will stick a few more up as and when.Not much interest to most folk but builds the photo database up which is all I really intend for the moment.Nearly 1500 loaded now. Dont know what happens when it gets to 2000. May have to change the Photobucket account details.

Ah well as I have two fans-
These from Shipping Wonders of the World published as a magazine between the Wars. They are sometimes seen bound into 4 volumes of 1764 pages. Thousands of photos , ships plans etc etc.Not expensive and well worth buying.      Irish Minstrel, a wooden 3 masted schooner.

Spritsail Barge
AKA Thames Sailing Barge
 Could operate in shallow water, no keel. Used leeboards instead, seen above about halfway down. One each side used on the lee side. Some had bowsprits. Some had the mizzen mast fully aft, some more foward. Often operated by one man, sometimes with a mate (boy apprentice), paid out of skippers wage IIRC. The entire gear could be lowered to go under shallow bridges.
